Elastomers Are a Welcome Arrival

Written by Gabor Nagy | Jul 17, 2019 4:00:00 AM

The Stronger Together slogan is a reality for Maillefer, a member of the Davis-Standard group of companies. A case in point is the welcome arrival of elastomer manufacturing solutions into the Maillefer product portfolio.

Medical and automotive applications are particularly well represented. Medical grade tubes, wound drains and catheters are produced on the silicone extrusion lines, while hydraulic and automotive hoses, as well as automotive seals extruded from our elastomer lines. These additions give major names in the elastomer industry access to Maillefer’s strong sales and service platform from operations throughout Europe and the MEA regions.

Biocompatible silicone offering

The silicone tube production solutions serve a large range of applications, from tiny catheters to robust pump tubing; single or multi-layer functionality; multi-lumen structures; and radio-opaque striping. The vertical cure components are seamlessly integrated as to provide optimal product quality, high production rates, and safe operation, all with a minimal footprint. Indeed, a compact design is a key concern in a clean-room environment, where precious space comes at a premium.

Our process solutions are guided by customer needs and vision. Simple to operate extrusion systems are designed either for a wide range, general purpose use, or are custom tailored for specific applications. They can incorporate features for electronic records compliance (e.g. Title 21 Code of Federal Regulations Part 11), integral printing and etching, ID/OD gauging, surface treatment, optical inspection, coiling, and cutting.

Automotive tubes and seals

Automotive extrusion calls for creative solutions in order to meet everchanging product constructions and higher quality requirements. Precise metering of extruder output is a necessity for keeping within exacting tolerances. Tight control on barrel temperature assures fast recovery following product or process changes. Reduced waste and efficiency improvements are the realistic targets.

Custom engineered co-extrusion cells, which combine five or more extruders, provide elegant and effective solutions for automotive seal producers looking to optimize their processes. Extruders destined for dense rubber, sponge or thermoplastic slip-coat work in synchronization through fully integrated controls. The turn-key thermoplastic systems for producing automotive seal are offered by process experts who guide you during your transition from rubber to TPE.

Hose in automotive and hydraulics

The elastomer program covers complete hose extrusion for automotive applications like fuel, turbocharger, brake, and heater hoses. Custom co-extrusion and tandem extrusion systems integrate gauging, reinforcement, and cutting for formed or coiled tube applications. Efficient systems for the manufacture of industrial hydraulic hose structures are available, as well as thermoplastic and elastomer battery cooling hose solutions for the evolving EV market.

Evolving with you

Our industry is in constant change. New standards and restrictions are a chance to evolve and offer rewarding opportunities. We see such examples with biocompatible silicone generating interest over other compounds, emission standards defining multilayer tube constructions to contain fuel vapor, and the growing need for battery cooling tubes in electric vehicles.

Maillefer’s large client base, which covers multiple regions in the world, voices demands to us on a regular basis. The challenges expressed offer us a comprehensive view of the changing business and they allow us to respond with a best fit for your elastomer extrusion requirements.
