New KWB Coils Medical Tube and More

The KWB is an automatic dual coiler/reeler engineered to wind tube onto Maillefer stainless steel turrets for self-supported coils or onto customer reels. It especially responds well to wind medical tube but also excels with small-diameter tube and specialty tubes.

Operator first

Safety, ergonomics and a compact design are the key specifications that went into the KWB’s modern design. Operator protection is primordial, notably during the product unloading phase. For example, the knives are retracted throughout the ejection phase to reduce the risk of injury. Operator-friendly, the KWB comes with a 15-inch screen for enhanced readability and improved ergonomics. The control pushbuttons (with the exception of the emergency stop) are integrated into the HMI.

The footprint is streamlined for space efficiency. The coiler’s modern technology is packed into a significantly reduced mono-block frame. Structural stability and durability are ensured while minimizing assembly complexity. The footprint reduction is over 40% less in comparison to similar models of the previous generation (ex. the KWA). The KWB is even easier to fit into demanding customer layouts and saves valuable floor space.

Built to perform

Performance, repeatability, and reliability are built into the machine. The KWB winds tube with diameters from 1 to 14 mm, at line speeds up to 300 m/min, and with a reel max. diameter of 600 mm. The KWB dual positions ensure seamless transfers from a full to an empty turret or reel at full production speed — without the need to reduce the speed at transfer. A contactless dancer guarantees smooth, reliable transfers, while a modern traversing system assures excellent tube lay quality throughout the entire coil or reel.

Compared to the earlier model, the KWB offers several advantages:

• Enhanced safety: Separate access for unloading and knife retraction during ejection.
• Operator-friendly: Upgraded HMI screen, ergonomic functions, and easy coil/reel access.
• Mobility option: Increased adaptability for evolving production demands.

Available since 2025

The new KWB 600 was released at last year’s premier plastics exhibition - K 2025. Maillefer’s coiler and reeler program covers a wide range of pipe, tube, hose and profile applications. Each component is available as a fully integrated element in new extrusion lines as well as an individual machine for boosting the performance of existing lines.
