A new chapter in power cable design is emerging. Maillefer joins forces with leading partners to turn recyclable PP technology into tomorrow’s high-performance standard.
In a groundbreaking collaboration, Maillefer, Premix, and LyondellBasell (LYB) have joined forces to deliver a technically advanced and recyclable power cable system. This innovative solution combines high-performance polypropylene (PP) materials, precision compounding, and cutting-edge cable manufacturing technology – offering a compelling alternative to traditional XLPE systems for medium and highvoltage applications.
At the heart of this partnership is Maillefer’s extrusion technology, which plays a critical role in ensuring process reliability and production efficiency. With decades of experience in cable manufacturing, Maillefer brings unmatched expertise in designing and delivering extrusion lines that meet the evolving demands of the power cable industry.
Maillefer’s multipurpose extrusion lines – including both horizontal and catenary continuous vulcanization (CV) systems – are engineered to deliver precise temperature control and optimized cooling. These features are essential for minimizing shrinkback, ensuring uniform insulation layers, and achieving optimal cable core quality. “Our technology is a critical enabler of this solution,” says Mikko Lahti, R&D Director at Maillefer. “We are excited to support our customers and partners in developing competitive cable systems with processing equipment that ensures performance and reliability.”
By integrating seamlessly with PP-based insulation and semiconductive compounds, Maillefer’s lines help manufacturers transition smoothly from XLPE to recyclable PP systems — without compromising on quality or efficiency.
The PP-based cable system offers several advantages for manufacturers looking to future-proof their operations:
As sustainability regulations tighten across the EU and beyond, the ability to produce recyclable, high-performance cables is becoming a strategic advantage. Maillefer’s technology empowers manufacturers to meet these challenges head-on — delivering smarter, cleaner, and more scalable solutions for tomorrow’s energy infrastructure.
