125 Years of Excellence – Continuing to Challenge What Is Possible

For 125 years, Maillefer has innovated in industry. From modest origins to a global leader, the company continues to drive technology, sustainability, and customer success.

It was at the start of the 2^nd Industrial Revolution when two entrepreneurs began their modest ventures, not knowing that they would join forces decades later, unified under a unique name. One had begun serving the Finnish pulp & paper industry, while the other started in the Swiss machine-making business. Today, the multinational has become a leader in extrusion solutions for the global wire, cable, pipe & tube extrusion industries. In honor of its 125^th anniversary, Maillefer invites its stakeholders to come together in celebration of a longstanding legacy.

A combination of two origins

In the beginning, the original sites were located near the Nokia River in western Finland and in Romainmôtier by the Jura Mountains in Switzerland. Activities developed and renewed themselves independently according to opportunities of the times, including sectors such as agriculture, telephony, and cable making. The post-war years, between the 1950’s and 1970’s, is when they both clearly dedicated themselves to the extrusion world.

Opportunity arrived in the 1980’s. Maillefer had been in the hands of the same family for three generations. Charles-Edmond Maillefer was on the verge of retirement; he was on the search for a buyer. Finally, in 1987 the deal was signed. Nokia Cable Machinery acquired Maillefer and merged the two entities into one. Both companies had found the means to unite their legacy and rally around a single name.

Maillefer name reaffirmed

The end of the 20^th century was remarkable by a series of acquisitions, reorganizations and rebranding. The company transformed and reaffirmed itself under the Maillefer name. It was the beginning of a new century, with the year 2000 signaling the 100^th anniversary.

Technology at the cornerstone

Throughout its journey, technology has been a cornerstone of the business. Investments made in skilled personnel and in R&D drove the innovation. Numerous patents and commercial successes stand as milestones along the Maillefer journey. The BM extrusion screw design, Topography Scanner, Extrucell nitrogen foaming, Monosil PEX-b crosslinking, MRC round curing, Cinegran dosing highlight just some of the patents granted. Technical excellence and partnerships with industry players form the company’s DNA.

Since 1900, the world has moved on, and so has the legacy of the founding fathers. The 4th Industrial Revolution is here, and the 5th is at our doorstep. Maillefer, now a prominent member of the Davis- Standard group of companies, is proud to have reached this 125 mark.
