The Pipe & Tube Markets are Diverse yet Similar

Serving multiple markets like heating & plumbing, fiber-optics microducts, medical tubes, automotive tubes, oil & gas and more, means building on commonalities and responding to the specificities.

Maillefer, with its ability to serve multiple market segments such as heating & plumbing, fiber-optics microducts, medical tubes, automotive tubes, oil & gas off-shore flexibles, and water irrigation pipes, is increasingly adapting its offering to specific demands from different segments.

More variety in capacity, price and products

The recent developments are encompassing many directions, like in microducts where we continue expanding the solutions for customers and evolving demands. We are offering manufacturers the capacity to make multi-layer product, achieve high performance within compact designs and the ability to produce long product lengths for optimum downstream bundling and sheathing operations. The tube products found in the rapidly changing automotive technology is creating opportunity too. Reinforced thermoplastic elastomer tubing for electric vehicles has the advantage of being lightweight and recyclable in comparison to rubber alternatives.

Technology that is introduced to serve one particular application may also advantageously serve others. In the example of small diameter medical tube, tolerances are tight. The vacuum calibration step is key in maintaining dimensional stability as the hot melt enters the downstream equipment. Similar know-how is applied elsewhere on extrusion lines for automotive tube or microduct.

Experiencing our customers’ challenges

We continue to experience a wide spread in demand starting with lines requiring lower production capacity but priced accordingly, or others having a high customization for very specific requirements, or with high speed and high volume applications for a restricted product mix.

With its history, its experience and its process know-how, Maillefer is well equipped to address the various demands. We have strong skills in machine design as well as a good understanding of the end-product and of the challenges facing our customers. Only with this combination, can Maillefer bring expected Added Value to our customers.

Solutions with true Value – and the right mindset

Machinery suppliers continue thinking less in terms of machine design to the supply of solutions. These solutions must also provide Value. The basic skills of our people involved in this process remain the same but the mindset in how we serve, support and understand customer demands needs to be adjusted to the Value requirements. This is the core of all our work. But those same demands go further by involving our customers to communicate clear and exact requirements, trends, and future challenges. The goal is to adapt our offering to meet our customers’ current expectations and to help them face their future challenges.
